Capoeira was Disguised as Fighting but added a dance from Angola because some slaves came from West Africa and also Angola. Now what happen is that the slaves needed something to free them serfs from Oppression and Capoeira was Born.Remember Capoeira is a Mixture of Fighting and also Angola Dance but also When they where slaves there where what is called Catholics there in Brazlia so some of the Catholic Doctrine was Mixed in which is a sad

    Well to be honest, …
Well to be honest, at the time, all forms of cultural expressionism were banned so they wouldn’t be allowed to dance or perform rituals.

Yeah its definately a myth that needs to be changed.

    Well if it wasn’t …
Well if it wasn’t disguised as a dance, then it would have been disguised as a ritual. Do you honestly think slaves were allowed to fight?
If they’d fight, they could be a threat for their masters. While capoeira has the feel of a dance. And the capoeira angola did determine the speed of the game, since it also had a basic step. Think of dancing salsa without listening to the music.

And the fact that the capoeira music came from Africa doesn’t refute that it was a disguise.

    Capoeira was never …
Capoeira was never being disguised as a dance. That myth has been debunked already. The fact that capoeira is performed to music is a link to its Angolan roots: music is an aspect of many communal activites. The specific music performed in capoeira is part of the Angolan musical culture in Bahia, especially considering the similarities between capoeira and the traditional samba de roda. As for specific rhythms controlling the specific kind of game, that is an innovation of 20th Cent. Regional.
