Muay Thai sport …
Muay Thai sport oriented??? apparently u dnt know wat muay thai is capable of.. Originally Muay thai was created for war ( Muay Boran “ancient boxing”, an unarmed combat used by Siamese soldiers) not for the ring. Back then, many died learning muay thai. King Rama the VII pushed for codified rules for Muay Thai, and they were put into place. These included the rules that the fighters should wear modern gloves and cotton coverlets over the feet and ankles. Karate for combat?

Bjj has lots of …
Bjj has lots of standing techniques and plenty of throws as it is an offshoot of judo. The emphasis may change depending on where you train. some places are more sport oriented than self defense and vice versa

BJJ, combined with …
BJJ, combined with boxing or kickboxing, provides all the necessary striking and grappling skills. Standing locks aren’t really necessary for self defense.

well don’t be so …
well don’t be so quick to write off traditional martial arts as obsolete. for one thing, BJJ has great ground work, but almost no throwing or standing locks and self-defense. second, boxing only utilizes the hands, were karate uses all of the body. second of all, in sport martial arts you only learn how to fight one person, while in traditional and street oriented martial arts teach you how to be aware of everything. this also goes for armed ailants. thanks for your input, though, God bless!

So what? Better …
So what? Better technique is better technique regardless of where it is used. A boxing punch works better than a karate punch. BJJ works better than Japanese JJ. Everything evolves. No one uses a sword and shield on the battlefield anymore but at one time they where proven. Martial arts have evolved and traditional karate is obsolete.

BJJ and Muy Thai …
BJJ and Muy Thai are way more efficient than traditional karate, which is why the first two are used in NHB and the latter is not.

What are these …
What are these marines going to learn from traditional karate? Their time would be better spent learning BJJ, Sambo, or Muy Thai.

Is that typical of …
Is that typical of americans? You start something and when the going gets tough you chicken out and leave things half done. You ran out of korea, then vietnam, now Iraq. A couple of years more you’ll be running out of afghanistan too. Each time, you come out with an excuse to chicken out. I suppose for all his rhetoric, this is the direction Obama is going to take because he’s never been where they dish out by the truckload. At the very least McCain seems to have the balls to take a stand.

The Iraq war is wrong and the Marines are getting killed for the wrong cause. They shouldn’t be there. They need to leave. We don’t need more danger.

lol, jiujitsu …
lol, jiujitsu effective for anything other than one on one I don’t think so…I don’t wanna be stabbed hit kicked or shot because I’m trying to hold a choke, submission or waiting to hyperextend a major joint. US Marines hand to hand is mediocore at best. Pekiti tersia kali, wing chun or israeli krav maga are effective as are the troops using them. Try a culture exchange with the philipenes instead of japan and their M.A ability will increase 10x
