Would anyone pay to use a website containing the most information on martial arts and fitness on the net?

this would include info on ALL styles(constant updates obviously), on martial arts film, nutrition, fitness, philosophy and general personal development. it would also contain a section where any question could be asked and an answer would always be given–eventually.

One already exists

How should I learn martial arts quickly?

How should learn martial arts quickly? Which one would be best for me? According to expert human body has 300 or more weak point. So how should I learn about those weak points? If I want to fight & win then I have to know about weak points. So is there any website where I can learn about it free?

first..there is a big difference between the body's weak points. and pressure points.

if you want to learn quickly..ignore pressure points, and traditional styles such as karate, kung fu, taekwondo.

find yourself a krav maga, jeet kune do, or other modernized self defense system that doesn't beat around the bush. i often recommend vee arnis jitsu, and Hock Hockheims scientific fighting congress. others include tony blauer, jim wagners reality based self defense.

presure points have alot of confusing theory that will take years to master and even then you might miss…half of it is nonsense in my opinion. others will disagree.

weak points however on the body are areas that generally you cannot protect. such as your joints. top of your head, temples, eyes, nose, throat, chin/jaw, neck, solar plexus, groin, knees, ankles, tops of feet, fingers…etc ..focus on those.

there are well over 300 "pressure points" on the body. which can lead to confusion in the heat of a fight. but only a handful of "weak areas"…which you are most likely to be able to attack at any given moment.

i may or may not be able to his your liver 3 point, then your triple warmer 17, then gall bladder 46 pressure points…it might work, i doubt it, but just maybe. …but if i punch you in the throat i guarantee ill get your attention.

traditional arts are ok, but they are usually "fighting" arts. and take a long time to learn to a level of any proficiency. mma, judo, boxing etc..can be learned quickly (good place to BEGIN training)…but they have rules and are limited in their application on the street.
modern self defense oriented arts, or military/police tactical arts get straight to the nuts and bolts of defending yourself now (not in a few years) and have no rules.

how good is the jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts training that is being done in the marine core these days?

I’d like to know because I’m going to be an officer in the Marines and I’d like to continue training, if they offer good training. Thanks!

MCMAP is good, gets better the higher you go in the system. I would suggest correct spelling before you try and become an officer. C O R P S. I hope you don’t call for fire like you spell.

What are some Martial Arts styles that use the bo staff?

I wanted to know what style of the Martial Arts teaches use with the bo staff, I want to take up a class and would like to know what would be best for beginners.

Sorry to say but most karate schools don't allow the novice/beginners to learn weapons, such as the bo staff, unless it's a "Big time McDojo" aka..sport karate school.

Kenpo has 2 bo staff Katas
Shotokan also has a bo staff Kata

For the past 10 years I have been learning and teaching Kenpo Karate, it is a great self defense art. I teach the bo staff set #1 & bo staff set #2, Kali (sticks) and Knives kata.

What are good shoes for kung fu training?

I've just recently started taking kung fu lessons 3 times a week. And I need to know what kind of shoes are good for this type of thing. I need something flexible, light weight, durable, preferabley flat soul, nothing too expensive or flashy, good grip(good enough to keep my balance on fast one foot motions but not enough that I can't turn fast on the ball of my foot) and most importantly comfortable. Any ideas?

Kung fu shoes are great for wing chun and such. But if your style involves more pivoting and movement or acrobatic techniques, then these shoes will fly of your feet like a greased pig with wings. Feiyue shoes are the best overall shoes for indoor kung fu training: light, cheap, great traction, and stay on your feet. These are the choice brand for most martial arts schools in China. In fact they are the same brand that the Shaolin monks use. If however you are going to do any training outside on concrete and such, then I would recommend something more durable like Adidas Samba indoor soccer shoes. This are made of strong leather and the soles hold up longer on rough concrete.

You can find them on http://www.martialartsmart.net

Hope this helped, good luck.

how can i toughen up the skin on my knuckles e.g conditioning for martial arts?

i was thinking of using surgical spirit on my knuckles and shins but what do you think

You must toughen up your knuckles 'gradually'.

Begin with pounding your fists into buckets of rice, then slowly work your way up to sand, then slowly up to a bucket of gravel, then slowly up to bricks and metal. This is done over a period of a few years.

In my first dojo (1968) we had automobile tires chained to the walls, buckets of rice, etc. for fingers jabs, and heavy bags full of various material, including sand and gravel to toughen feet, knees, and shins. (And lots of towels to wipe the spats of blood off the floor or tatami).

If you can't find a place to buy a makiwara, build one yourself. I've built two makiwaras in my life-time for my punching.

Half the fun of the martial arts is building your own stuff.

Build and use a wooden training 'wing chung' dummy.

http://www.wingchundummys.com/

As Bruce Lee stated in the 1968 Black Belt Magazine Yearbook: The advantage of the wooden dummy is its ability to absorb punishment.

Once you get your knuckles, fingers, wrists, forearms, and shins sufficently toughened, you can really go to town banging on this wooden dummy.

I'm part of a line of shaolin schools called shaolin-do.
they teach kung fu and tai chi. There are two of these schools in austin texas, and I'm sure that there is a shaolin-do website that can give you a location nearer to you.

Their classes are good and affordable.
