Martial arts tricking is an exciting new sport. While it's been around for a decade, it hasn't been around as long as other sports like boxing, wrestling, body building which have been around for decades, even centuries. It is not a martial art in the true sense where the purpose is to self defend or attack someone. It is an art form and a expression of ones self like a dance.

Martial arts tricking or sometimes known as tricking is a combination of gymnastics, martial arts, and b-boying or bread dancing. The martial arts components takes disciplines from taekwondo, capoeira and wushu or kung fu. It consists of a combination of kicks, flips and twists.

It demands extreme athleticism, strength, flexibility, agility and body co-ordination. It's for these reasons martial arts tricking is one of the most exciting and fastest growing sports in the world.

Martial arts tricking is slowly making it's way into the commercial world. While some would like to keep this sport underground, there's no holding it back. It's appearing on popular sports channels such as espn, tv shows, music clips as well as making heavy grounds on the internet such as youtube and facebook.

Pioneers of this sport are many, each individual bringing along their own unique style and inspiring a new batch athletes. Some of the well known stars worth a special mention in the sport are: Anis Cheurfa, Daniel Graham, Sesshoumaru, Jujimufu, Steve Terada, James "Crazy Asian" Yu, KJER, Vince Johnson, Scott Skelton, Jono Wong, Morgan Flook, Chris Devera, and Gemma Nyguyen.

Q: Do you need a martial arts back ground to do Martial Arts Tricking?

A: No is the general answer, but it will help

Q: Would you recommend doing martial arts to help with tricking?

A: This question is very subjective to the person's individual needs. I wouldn't take the classes mainly there's too many techniques that are not used in martial arts tricking. However, if you see the benefit of self defence it would something you wish to consider

Q: How does one get started?

A: The simplest way is to visit a few martial arts tricking web site like this one, watch the samplers, read the tutorial articles and get started. Martial Arts Tricking is potentially a dangerous sport, it is recommended that all precautions are taken. Training in a gymnastics facility is recommended.

Q: How long will it take to learn how to do a [insert move here]?

A: It will very on individual talents. Some people have learnt the butterfly twist in 35 mins while others have taken 6 months. It's very much up to the individual. The important thing is to have fun and to learn it in a safe environment.
